POPPY LIES SPENT IN the early morning light, her body limp and used in the best way possible. She and Jameson had come together six more times that night. Six! They had fucked, had sex, and made love, which Poppy now completely understood the difference between them.
The fucking was hard and fast, when the two people couldn’t stand one more moment of being apart. The sex was two bodies coming together to find that release that eluded them. And making love was when two bodies, two souls, came together as one, both searching for the desire and passion in the other.
After the night spent with Jameson, Poppy understands that she had only ever had sex with Stan. There were no feelings, no passion, just a melding of their bodies to find their climax. She and Jameson consumed each other with a mixture of fucking and making love. Both exactly what they had needed at that moment.
As Jameson sleeps, the sheet pooled at his waist and his arm draped across his stomach, Poppy takes a few minutes to stare at this man. This man that has become her protector, her friend, and her lover. This man that has given up his home, his bachelorhood, and his routine - for her.
Poppy doesn’t know what she may have done in life to deserve the chance to love Jameson, but she isn’t going to turn it down. And some strange flicker of recognition sparks inside her that has her blood pumping and her stomach fluttering – those damn butterflies coming to life. Those butterflies that had come to life the moment this beautiful man had stepped up to her car asking if she needed help. Love. There is no other emotion to describe how she feels. No other emotion to describe the way she would absolutely give up everything for this man. It came on quick and by surprise and though she doesn’t have anything in her life to compare this feeling against she trusts in herself to follow her heart and her heart is telling her that she loves him. Wholly, fully, and completely.
Now she worries about the danger she may have unknowingly brought to his door. Stan is a powerful man and she has no doubts that if he wanted to find her, he could. And with a force of his hand he could have her do whatever he wanted. He knew exactly how to wield his power over her. And as much as she would give anything for Jameson, those two little girls were her flesh and blood and she would give her own life for theirs.
“What has you frowning so early in the morning?” Jameson asks her.
She turns her head quickly realizing she must have been staring off into space and finds Jameson turned on his side, his head resting in the palm of his hand. He looks so comfortable in his skin, something Poppy used to feel but now struggles with, but he makes her feel beautiful even when she tugs the sheet a bit higher under her arms.
